Eliezer Melendez, M.D.

Dr. Eliezer Melendez was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. His parents served as missionaries in Mexico for 10 years with the SDA church. Dr. Melendez is a graduate from Montemorelos Medical School, completed his medical internship at Bella Vista Hospital and pediatric residency at Ponce Regional Hospital. Dr. Melendez stayed actively involved in community service with the red cross, civil defense, head start, proctoring medical students and also became the team physician for the Puerto Rico Olympic cycling team. Dr. Melendez discovered his passion for serving and providing quality healthcare to children and began his career as a pediatrician with his own private practice in Puerto Rico for 12 years. Dr. Melendez then moved to Michigan in 2002 and worked at Sturgis Hospital in pediatrics for 22 years while serving as Medical Director, Chief of Pediatrics and Medical Examiner. He has been recognized by many awards and achievements such as Michigan Perinatal Award in 2005 and Americo Serra Scientific Award during his third year of his residency. Outside of his career, you would find Dr. Melendez enjoying the outdoors with hobbies including scuba diving, tennis and bicycling.
